Vision

The Michigan Economic & Environmental Roundtable holds that the well-being of people and other living things depends on a healthy and sustainable environment and a healthy and sustainable economy. This principle of sustainable use should be the basis for all resource management decisions. The roundtable envisions for Michigan that:

  • A high-quality natural environment is viewed by all people as essential to human life and other living things. All Michigan residents should understand, accept, and practice environmental stewardship.
  • Nonrenewable and renewable resources are used conservatively and efficiently.
  • The air, water, soil, and other natural resources of Michigan are clean and healthy for all of its citizens, provide for a strong economy, and provide habitat in which diverse plant and wildlife populations are able to thrive.

Purpose

The roundtable provides a forum where leadership from diverse sectors in Michigan can address the complex challenges of balancing economic development to meet the needs of all Michigan citizens with prudent resource management and maintenance of environmental quality. The roundtable will work on developing new approaches to resolving environmental, economic, and social issues affecting the sustainable use of Michigan's natural resources. By encouraging consensus among diverse stakeholders, the roundtable will develop findings and policy recommendations regarding sustainable development in Michigan. It will also serve as a catalyst for the initiation of innovative local efforts and roundtables.
